Use a Taxi to Go "Out on the Island"
Depending on where you want to travel by taxi you’ll pay either a fixed rate or a metered rate. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company has defined "zones" for the main tourism areas of Old San Juan, Condadao, Isla Verde, the airport and the cruise ship piers. The rates for traveling within and between those tourism zones are fixed and posted.
But what if you want to travel outside of the main tourism areas? What will the taxi fare be then?
In addition to the fixed rates within tourism zones, the there are fixed taxi rates between the main tourism areas (Old San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde) and many other parts of the island.
Just as an FYI - you won’t be able to take a taxi to the rain forest. The taxis can’t go all the way up to where the trails are and also, you won’t be able to find one in the area when you are done. Find alternate transportation if you want to go to the rain forest.
Here is a partial list of fixed rates between the tourism areas and other selected cities/towns "out on the island". As always, ask for a fare quote from the taxi driver before beginning your trip.
