Final Total Lunar Eclipse Until 2010

As everyone knows by now, there was a total lunar eclipse on February 20, 2008. There won’t be another one until 2010. So, of course, this was something that we had to see for ourselves.

According to the news, the eclipse was supposed to start sometime around 10:00pm AST here in Puerto Rico. And the universe kept its appointment. The sky was clear. There were lots of stars out. Saturn was even visible just above the moon from our property here in Rio Grande. We set up the camera with plans to create a little time-lapse movie of the event.

Things progressed nicely. Some clouds rolled through aroung 10:30pm. But it cleared up and we thought we were good. Then, around 11:00pm, just before the moon was totally in shadow, heavy clouds blew in and the rain started. Well, that was the end of the show for us. A little disappointing. But we were able to capture a bunch of good photos, just not enough to make a decent video.

Oh, well. We’re making an entry in our appointment book for 2010. Anyone want to join us?
