Hi! We just visited the zoo this past weekend and it was great!! Your webpage however says its open to 5pm thats incorrect. Its only open until 4pm. And there are not any more snack places to get sandwiches. There is only ice cream and fruit ices.
I am from the states and thought it was going to be aweful. However we were delightfully surprised. It is a simple zoo and they are making changes. They give you your own personally audio machine that you type in the number of the exhibit and they will tell you about that particular animal. You can feed the camels for a dollar.... they have two albino peacocks...They have a wide variety of animals. As long as you are not expecting the san diego zoo you will enjoy your time. I would reccommend a visit!! You and your kids will love it!!!

I was going to visit too, but it sounds like I should spend my time somewhere else.

It is unfortunate. We're planning a trip next month to PR & this was going to be one of our stops.

Thanks for the update. It's unfortunate, but recent cuts in government funding have taken a toll on this zoo.

Hey Guys, love the site - We took a trip to the zoo on 3/30/2010, and found that there are a few (unfortunate) changes, it was still pretty cool, but it sounds like the upkeep has gone downhill a little bit since your last visit.

It now costs $10 per adult

No more maps at the front gate

No more Bear

No more reptile house or Bug exhibit

If you are in the area, make a stop, but I wouldn't suggest making a special trip all the way to Mayaguez just to see the zoo.

Surprisingly - you can also see monkeys in the wild in Puerto Rico. I discovered them on the West Coast of Puerto Rico (between Boqueron and Combate). So after checking out the Zoo (which is great), the more adventurous might even venture into the hills to see the wild research monkeys in their newly established habitat! I posted photos and information on my blog.
