Especially during the winter months, the waves can be a problem. People need to use common sense. As you can see from our pictures, when we went in January, it was flat and calm. I felt perfectly safe and enjoyed many hours safely swimming and snorkeling. I would suggest people listen to WOSO 1030 AM radio in the mornings (on the hour and half hour) for news and water conditions. If there is a high surf advisory for the N or NE of the island, the conditions on the beach may be bad. Again, use your own judgement. But you do not have to park in the lot. You can very well park on the street for free. Entrance to the beaches in the Seven Seas area is free, as are all natural beaches in Puerto Rico. It's a decent beach as well--quiet, really calm water (at least when we were there), etc. The only thing is that (and you forgot to mention this) at least to park there, possibly to get in the beach as well, not sure, you have to pay 3 dollars.
