Saborea Puerto Rico 2010

For those who might not know the term, a foodie is a person who simply loves food and drink for consumption, study, preparation, and news. Puerto Rico has a number of food and drink festivals that should make any foodie (and the rest of us!) smile. The next one coming up is Saborea Puerto Rico. The name even means to savor, to relish or to enjoy in Spanish.

Now, I won’t pretend that Ray and I are foodies, but we have some good friends from NJ (Lori and Butch) that are. When they visit, Butch really loves eating (and drinking!) his way through Old San Juan. We each order something different and taste them all. Most of the time, he is in heaven! So when their annual visit coincided with Saborea this year we knew we would be going!

Rums of Puerto Rico

Saborea Puerto Rico is actually a multi-day event. Starting on Friday April 9th, there is a Rums of Puerto Rico Beach Soirée at the Caribe Hilton (with food, rum drinks and live music). On Saturday (April 10th) and Sunday (April 11th), the Saborea Puerto Rico Village will be open.

The Saborea Puerto Rico Village is held at Escambron Beach. Each day, different chefs from 50 area restaurants will be serving up delicious specialties. There will be many bars where you can try your choice of different drinks. There will also be cooking demonstrations and seminars given by area chefs and well known TV personalities (the presentations are supposed to be in English) to maybe teach you a few things, keep you entertained, full of yummy food, and generally having a good time.

Though the Rums of Puerto Rico are highlighted, there will be many other beverages to sample such as beer, wines and other liquors, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. If you are still hungry (for more food, drinks and fun), there are even after-parties!

There is also a Saborea Kids’ Pavilion where the children (anyone over 5 years old) can have fun while learning how to prepare some simple meals and snacks, and participate in other activities.
