Enjoy a Short River Walk with a Big Payoff – Cascada Vidrio
If you are exploring in Orocovis (especially near Cerro Mime), here is a special little treat for you. You can find a pretty little pool and cascade right by the roadside. For the more adventurous, a 10-minute river hike will get you to the big payoff – a large waterfall! This little-know spot is so worth a visit. You will be surprised how nice it is!
When we go on an adventure that is farther from home, I like to have a few things on the list to explore while we are out. We recently went to Orocovis, which is in the geographical center of Puerto Rico. It is a mountainous area, so the roads twist and turn, there are peaks to hike and lots of rivers (and waterfalls) to play in. So after a hot hike up Cerro Mime, we had to just go about 5 minutes away to get cooled off in the river. It is a small river that eventually runs into Rio Bautia. But it is big on beauty.
If you park at the bridge, you only need to walk a few steps down to the river, where you will find Charco La Tajea. This is a lovely pool, with two small “waterfalls”. It is really pretty. You could spend some nice time with the family playing here.
For those who are able and more adventurous, take a little hike up-river. This will require some hopping from rock to rock, climbing up and over in places. It may be slippery, so take your time. But it is generally doable for most people. After about about 10 minutes, you will come to a really large waterfall — Cascada el Vidrio.
I was surprised how tall it was, I was not expecting it. It’s really pretty! When we went, the area was clean – so please keep it that way! Take your trash home with you!

While you are in the area, consider exploring Cerro Mime.
Park on Road 157, at the bridge, between KM16.1 & KM16.2. You will see a beaten down dirt area where others have parked. It is on a pretty sharp curve, so make sure you park carefully (and completely off of the road) so as to not mess up traffic.
