Something for Everyone at El Gran Parque del Norte

El Gran Parque del Norte in Hatillo is one of my favorite parks in Puerto Rico. It literally has something for everyone! It’s like two parks rolled into one – the “fun park” side with rides and activities for kids, and the more natural side with a beach, boardwalk, outdoor sports, and tons of photo ops.

Located right off Route 2, it sits on the border between Hatillo and Camuy – just an hour west of the San Juan area. I think it’s absolutely worth a stop if you’re anywhere nearby. We always enjoy our visits and come away with gorgeous photos. Plus, the park is really well-maintained.

El Gran Parque del Norte

The family fun area is called Del Norte Fun Park (Facebook page), and you’ll find it straight ahead as you walk through the main entrance. Like the rest of the park, admission is free – you just pay for the rides and experiences you want to try. They have small amusement park rides, bumper cars, bikes to rent, a climbing wall, a little train ride, and lots of other fun activities for kids, plus kiosks selling drinks, snacks, and toys. This section is only open on weekends (and some holidays).

We don’t have kids, but we still love walking around this area. There are all sorts of cute signs and photo spots everywhere – it looks like an absolute blast for little ones. Toward the back, you’ll find an indoor activity center and clean bathrooms. Scattered throughout this section are gazebos you can reserve for get-togethers or parties.

El Gran Parque del Norte

The left side of the park is for nature enthusiasts. You can walk in directly to the left or loop around behind the kids’ activity area. Paved walkways lead to more gazebos, playground equipment, basketball courts, soccer and volleyball areas, bike paths, and plenty of green space for flying kites or just running around. Since the walkway is paved, it’s wheelchair accessible and perfect for walking or jogging.

Paths branch off to different areas of the beach. While the beach isn’t suitable for swimming, the sea breeze and views are fantastic. It’s also a turtle nesting area, so watch where you step! The whole area is beautiful – full of birds and waterfowl. With recreation options like swings, a fishing area, and a boardwalk with a viewing tower along the mouth of the Camuy River, there’s so much to explore at Gran Parque del Norte.

The park is packed with photo opportunities. They’ve created all sorts of Instagram-worthy spots that enhance the natural beauty – colorful chairs, Puerto Rican flag art, murals, swings, and so much more. Even out front, there’s the Hatillo name spelled out in pretty letters. They really did an amazing job with this park!
